Younes Baba-ali born in Oujda, Morocco in 1986 lives and works in Marseille.
Younes Baba-Ali is a multi-disciplinary artist and self-taught musician. Since graduating from L’Ecole Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, Strasbourg in 2008, sound material and its conditioning are central elements of his artistic work. His pieces aim to involve the viewers in the artistic process, asserting that without them, the piece cannot exist. It is a way of encouraging the viewers to become more than just visitors. They are questioned on the rights they have in relation to the pieces and are discouraged from the usual viewing habits. He experiments with the capacity sound has to propagate in space and to involve the body of the viewer in the creation process. He also allows to integrate into the works a feeling of report integrated into the process of creation.
SAATCHI ONLINE CRITIC'S CHOICE BY CONSTANCE GOUNOD
Younes Baba-Ali's sound installations demand to be heard before they remain to be seen. Having trained as a technician and musician, he naturally developed an affinity for sound and its propagation within space. In all of his work, Baba-Ali seeks to directly confront the visitor to its haunting presence, turning him into a participant of the piece and making him reconsider previously familiar objects.

Tic Nerveux is a social criticism in the form of a video triptych. It represents three hands nervously pressing on a pen. The amplified sound of the clicking pens creates an oppressive atmosphere that questions society’s obsessional and neurotic habits.
